Coast to Coast Cycling
If the BBC’s cliffhanger Poldark series captures your imagination – and how couldn’t it following the Warleggan’s ship wreck and beach pilchard’s party – then keep a lookout for Cornish mining landmarks as you explore Cornwall by cycle. Bring your own or hire a cycle in Cornwall with our many hire companies including Penryn based company; Explorer Cycle Hire and Bissoe bike hire.
On your cycling holiday, why not journey down the Cornish mineral trails which cover a network of over 60km of off-roading including Carn-Brea, Carn-Marth, The Great Flat lode and the Coast to Coast trail. Plan your cycle route past the Basset Monument, set high on Carn Brea hill and built in memory of mine owner, Baron Francis Basset. Also seen for miles around, the nearby Carn Brea Castle, built as a chapel in 1379 and later remodelled as a hunting lodge in the style of a folly castle in the 18th Century, offers a unique evening meal experience within the Castle itself! Just call 01209 218 358 to book your table in advance, but don’t just take our word for it – read about the Castle’s unique restaurant here.
Whatever your cycling ability you’ll find a cycle route in Cornwall that’s perfect for you. Cornwall’s coast to coast cycling trails link throughout the county and are a wonderful and affordable way to start your Cornish adventure. You can use the handy GPS route map and the Visit Cornwall for more information and start planning your route. Cornwall Council also provide detailed information about routes such as The Camel trail, a largely traffic free trail along a disused railway line between Wentfordbridge, Bodmin, Wadebridge and Padstow. You might also want to try out the Wheal Peevor cycle trail – their activity sheets will have you and the kids entertained for hours!
For you cycling enthusiasts don’t miss the chance for a Cornish cream along the bissoe trail, a favourite of the cycling community. There you’ll find the Bissoe Bike Hire Café, a wooden lodge nestled in the woods and kitted out with the latest cycling equipment and cycling race memorabilia. With all the storage space available as a guest at our affordable self catering Cornwall Plus, you really can feel free to shop!
