Top film locations to explore in Cornwall

Stunning views, atmospheric moorland, beautiful seascapes and more – it’s no surprise Cornwall often features in some of our favourite TV shows and films. Here are just a few of our favourite film locations to explore.

Charlestown

Poldark was filmed in Charlestown Cornwall

For the Poldark lovers out there, Charlestown will be instantly recognisable as the location used as Truro Harbour in the series – however you might also recognise this beautiful area from the films Pirates of the Caribbean and Alice in Wonderland.

Holywell Bay

Another Poldark favourite, Holywell Bay has also hit our screens in the TV series And Then There Were None, as well as featuring as the Korean beach that James Bond lands on after night-surfing ashore on the famous Jaws Wave in Die Another Day.

The Eden Project

This iconic landmark is definitely worth a mention for its starring role in the same Bond blockbuster – The Eden Project was used to depict the Icelandic diamond mine in Die Another Day.

Port Isaac

Port Isaac

Anyone who’s watched the popular Doc Martin series will immediately recognise the idyllic Port Isaac as the location used as Port Wren in the TV show. The nearby Port Gaverne is also often featured, as well as Doyden Castle in Port Quin which is used as Pentire Castle. A beautiful area, it’s well worth a visit.

Bodmin Moor

Bodmin Moor Poldark film location

With its rugged beauty and wild nature, Bodmin Moor is another popular location for filming. Alfred Hitchcock’s interpretation of Jamaica Inn was filmed at Bolventor, whilst the moor also heavily features throughout the Poldark series. Doc Martin is no stranger to the area too, with St Nonna’s Church used for the wedding of the doctor to Louisa.

Gunwalloe

Gunwalloe Church Cove Poldark Location

Featuring as the location for the smuggling scenes in the Poldark series, Gunwalloe has also played a starring role in Doc Martin, with the church – St Winwaloe – used to film Aunt Joan’s funeral.

St Michael’s Mount

St Michael's Mount features in Rosamunde Pilcher films

For those Rosamunde Pilcher lovers out there, you’ll recognise St Michael’s Mount from both The Shell Seekers and Coming Home which starred Joanna Lumley. An unforgettable landmark, it’s definitely worth a visit.

St Agnes Head

St Agnes Head

A favourite for both Rosamunde Pilcher adaptations and the Poldark series, with the dramatic scenery and industrial heritage found here it’s no wonder this location has become so popular for filming.

Other film locations

Kynance Cove is one of the best beaches in Cornwall

Fancy seeking out those other stunning locations you’ve spotted? When it comes to historic estates associated with Rosamunde Pilcher film locations, we recommend heading to Lanhydrock Estate, Trewithen Estate, Pencarrow House or Prideaux Place. Many Cornish beaches have also been in the spotlight too, with Bedruthan Steps, Gwithian, Little Fistral and Lusty Glaze all having their moment in the spotlight.

Poldark fans might like to explore Porthgwarra, Tregirls Beach, Pedn Vounder, Constantine Bay, Kynance Cove and Lellizzick Cliffs – all of which feature in the popular series. Wheal Owles is definitely worth a visit too, having been used to depict Wheal Leisure.
