Think of Cornwall – with those long beaches, rock pools, rugged cliffs, the smell of the fresh salty air, festivals, pubs and quaint coastal towns to visit. If you’ve never been before, or have positive memories from childhood and hanker to see and hear these happy sights and sounds again, visiting Cornwall can rejuvenate your wellbeing and zest for life.

There’s a whole plethora of things to do! Soak up Cornish culture during Falmouth week from 9 to 18 August, see super yachts and smaller sailing boats race, and experience nightlife with a packed programme of evening entertainment. Along with a variety of daytime events including Science in the Square and an amazing air show; there will be an incredible buzz around our beautiful town.
Just a short walk from Glasney Rooms, on Saturday afternoon 24 August, it is Penryn’s Annual Town Fair with special guest ‘Titan the Robot’. There will be live entertainment from The Blues Brothers, Soul Sensations, Celtic Steps and Co-Act The Collective, as well as craft stalls, bouncy castles, Bingo Bus, Punch and Judy and more.
Also on Saturday, there’s the ‘Return of the Secret Gin Garden’ set on the rolling green hills of the Scorrier House Estate, about 20 mins away from the Penryn Campus. Playing host to headline acts The Magic Numbers and The Brand New Heavies, there will be a range of performances from Tallulah Blue, plus a mixture of other theatrical installations.
On 16, 17, 18 August there is a Cornish Steam & Country Fair at Stithians Showground and on 23 to 25 August the Cornwall VW Jamboree festival will also take place at Stithians Showground, with a show and shine, family activities, stalls and live bands.
2. Be Active:
To ensure you are refreshed before for your day’s activities, our on-campus Stannary Restaurant is modern, stylish and well equipped to enjoy a hearty breakfast or delicious lunch. Our contemporary Koofi Café/Bar serves divine pizzas, good coffee and tasty sweets which melt in your mouth. The Green Beast Smoothie from our Koofi Café/Bar is a must try to detox and energise! Packed full of broccoli, pineapple, banana, mango, celery and spinach, have one of these and you’ll be ready for anything.
On campus there’s a fantastic large, state-of-the-art Sports Centre, badminton court, gym, and a variety of exercise classes to keep fit and have fun. Ideally located to explore Cornwall
The Penryn Campus is ideally located to explore the quaint coastal towns and beaches all around Cornwall.
Fancy a bike ride? It’s possible to hire a bike in Penryn or at the nearby Bissoe Trail (on the way to Truro). If you bring your own bike, there are bike shelters and a bus stop on campus. With Penryn train station nearby as well, you don’t need to drive to get around!
3. Take Notice:

Our gym is superb, and to complement this, there are many other things you can do to be active as well. Simply getting outdoors, being in a different environment, observing and interacting with nature and walking in the fresh air will invigorate you.
When you visit, walk around the stunning campus grounds, notice and savour the moment, feel engaged in the stunning natural beauty of Cornwall.
The natural environment of the campus and nearby Falmouth beaches will provide refreshing restorative qualities. A swim in the sea is a well-known tonic to boost wellbeing as well.
4. Keep Learning:
Settle down and read books (there is an academic library on campus which welcomes visitors). Find out more about the local history including Pendennis Castle in Falmouth and enjoy a boat trip over to it’s sister St Mawes Castle. The Maritime Museum in Falmouth is definitely worth a visit with a special Titanic Stories exhibition now on.
The Eden Project, an educational charity in St Austell, includes massive Biomes housing the largest rainforest in captivity and has stunning plants, exhibitions and stories and exciting family events.
Our AMATA performance centre, Trebah Gardens Amphitheatre and the Minack Theatre hosts a varied cultural programme of theatre, music and comedy.

If you’re able to support any local lifesaving charities, there is – RNLI Lifeboats, and the Cornwall Air Ambulance for starters. Do visit the lovely Flicka Foundation – donkey sanctuary charity on your stay with us too. They are located nearby and it’s free to get in.
Try a beach clean. Challenge yourself to put five pieces of rubbish in the recycling bins on campus and in the local community.
